A New Era
1968 was the beginning of a new era for the small congregation on Monroe Street because Pastor Davis, a visionary, had a dream to establish a church and school that serves not only its membership, but also the entire community. The vision was contagious, and it infected the entire congregation. Land was purchased on Jefferson Street and in 1970 the church witnessed the fulfillment of its dream of a new building seating 250 worshippers. True to his dream of serving the entire community, the church was renamed Community Church of God.
Pastor Davis believed, trusted, and stood on the Word of God, "I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me" Phil 4:13. He preached and taught the congregation to do the same. As a result, in 1980, new land was purchased and a 1,000-seat sanctuary was built adjacent to the old church. In 1990, the two buildings were connected. In 1998, construction began on a multi-purpose building. That building now houses the fulfillment of yet another dream of Pastor Davis, "WSC Academy."
