Our Pastors

At Community Church of God in Ypsilanti, Michigan, we have been blessed with a long line of gifted pastors for our Christian fellowship. These leaders have helped our church, and our communities, to prosper since 1921.

Reverend Kersey - Christian Fellowship

Reverend Theron W. Kersey (PP)

Reverend Theron W. Kersey (PP) is a prolific, profound preacher and teacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as Pastor of Community Church of God. Pastor Kersey is a native of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and he received his formative education in the Ypsilanti School District and later went on to The Detroit Bible College. Rev. Kersey is married to the lovely Jeanne Kersey who is a faithful, God-fearing, and busy Christian worker. They have seven children and a number of grandchildren.

Rev. Kersey ascended to Pastorate of Community Church of God through his faithful work and dedication to the Lord in such areas as Bus Driver for the Church, Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of Trustee Board, Youth Leader, Choir Member, and Usher Board. God empowers Pastor Kersey to magnificently meet the spiritual, physical, and administrative needs of this body of Christian believers. Under the auspices of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Kersey is keeping the dream alive and "continuing the vision" left by Rev. Dr. Fred L. Davis, now Pastor Emeritus.

Reverend Moorman - Christian Fellowship

Dr. Franci Helm Moorman, the widow of the late Naaman L. Moorman, was born to the late Rev. Herbert G. Helm and Mrs. Willie B. Helm. Following her retirement from the K-12 Public School System, Dr. Moorman spent 16 years at the post-secondary level in Washtenaw Community College as a Professional Tutor, Program Specialist, Facilitator, and Coordinator of the Learning Support Services Office.

As a member of the Community Church of God, Dr. Moorman was the coordinator of the Tyndale Bible Institute housed at Community Church of God. She was ordained at Community Church of God in April 2001. In October 2006, she became the Associate Pastor of Community Church of God. She has been actively involved in numerous ministries within the Congregation. She sums up her work so far in this way: “It is my God who has kept me and brought me this far. I thank Him and pray daily for the strength to continually walk worthy His calling upon my life.”

Reverend Davis - Christian Fellowship

Reverend Dr. Fred L. Davis (RPE)

Reverend Dr. Fred L. Davis is a native of Boligee, Alabama, and husband to Sis. Verlouis Davis for 56 years. They have two children, Fred Jr. and Rev. Portia Davis-Mann. Rev. Davis acknowledged his call to the ministry at an early age, and his preparation for the ministry was supplemented by studies at the Detroit Bible College and in 1966 an honorary doctorates degree was conferred upon him from the Detroit Extension of Faith Evangelistic Christian Schools. His response to pastoral ministry was in 1968 to Monroe Street Church of God. Under his leadership, a new church building was constructed on Jefferson Street in 1970 and in keeping with his vision to establish a church that provides for the needs of the entire community, the church was renamed Community Church of God. Ten years later, a new, larger building was constructed across the street from the first building. In 1990, by adding a connecting wall, both buildings were joined together to form one building. With the fulfillment of his dreams for the Church and the community, in 2006 after 39 years of faithful, loving, and dedicated full-time ministry Pastor Davis stepped down and passed the mantle on to Rev. Theron W. Kersey, his associate pastor for 21 years.
